Describe your school's strengths and needs based on a school improvement document, such as the school's SALT visit report, its SALT survey data, or its school improvement plan.

My school has many strengths that are associated with academics. This SALT report mentions that most students read, write, solve problems and critically think effectively. Most student also enjoy the school and use a variety of learning strategies. The school also has some needs that need to be addressed. While most students want to excel many students do not have pride in their school. This is said to be because of the appearance of the school and confusing about some academics. The students are often confused about the varying academic expectations in their classes as well as the portfolio system. The portfolio system is new but most students are very confused about what it is and what they have to do in their portfolio. One other problem that was mentioned is the students have inconsistent behaviors. Some students are very well behaved while others are not.

Hi Mitch,

SK has a diverse population (relative to the other rural/suburban schools in the area). Did the SALT report really cite students' confusion about the portfolio system? How can you address this problem in your classes? What other problems do you see at SK? How are you addressing these? - fogleman fogleman Feb 7, 2010
